[Tinymux] Interesting Problem

Merrie,
More info about your installation and initial configuration would be
needed to properly troubleshoot the problem, but this sounds like a
possible mismatch between mux.config and netmux.conf (or <gamename>.conf).
In the mux.config file, there is a variable called GAMENAME. by default,
this is set to 'netmux'. There are a number of dependancies on this
setting, including what db files to use, and what .conf file to read at
startup.
If you change GAMENAME to something other than 'netmux' in mux.config,
you need to make additional changes. For example, consider you edit
mux.config and change GAMENAME to 'foo'
1. netmux.conf must be copied or moved to foo.conf
2. foo.conf must be edited to change every instance of 'netmux' to 'foo',
specifically all of the db filenames.
3. If you want to use the 'minimal' database that includes the SGP
install, you must go into the game/data/ subdirectory and move the
file 'netmux.db' to 'foo.db'
The help and wizhelp commands are defined in the <gamename>.conf file for
your game. If you changed GAMENAME in mux.config to foo, but there is no
foo.conf file, or the foo.conf file does not have the entries that define
help and wizhelp, then the help command won't work. If MUX starts up and
doesn't find a foo.db file (or another valid db file), it will create a
new database that contains only limbo (#0) and Wizard (#1). This will be
noted in the .log file.
More importantly: If you do not have the db file entries in foo.conf,
or the names listed do not match the names in mux.config, you will most
likely lose all of your data at the next shutdown/restart.
So, two things:
1. Check the log file for errors at startup.
2. check mux.config and <gamename>.conf for config mismatches.
If it's something else, let us know what you found and we'll dig deeper.
Thanks,
nails
