One senario that would explain this is if you're using MUSHClient to
connect, TinyMUX 2.3 doesn't parse Telnet sequences although it does
on rare occasions generate them. By default, MUSClient tries to
negotiate NAWS.

You can look in your world settings and turn off NAWS negotiation.

Late model versions of TinyMUX 2.4 do parse telnet and can deal with
the NAWS negotiation just fine, so remember to turn it back on
eventually.
